The primary mission of the 1/4 "Gascogne" and 2/4 "La Fayette" fighter squadrons is airborne nuclear deterrence operating the Rafale B (F3R standard) and the upgraded ASMP-A nuclear missile.
Thanks to the Rafale's versatility, they carry out all the missions required by the French Air Force's fighter jets. This includes deployment on external operations for conventional day/night assault and quick reaction alert.
The Rafale B combined with the upgraded ASMP-A guarantees the technical and operational credibility of the Strategic Air Forces units that have been providing nuclear deterrence relentlessly since 1964 when they operated the Mirage IV A fighter with the AN22 nuclear bomb.
