With a 9,500 kg external payload and multipurpose weapons system, the Rafale C can carry out a broad range of different missions that previously required the use of specialist aircraft: air superiority and air defence, air support, long-range strikes, aerial reconnaissance, anti-shipping strikes, nuclear deterrence, etc. In service with the French Air Force since 2006, the Rafale has proved itself in combat in Afghanistan (Operation Enduring Freedom), Libya (Operation Harmattan) and more recently in the fight against terrorism in the Sahel (Operation Serval), as well as in Iraq and Syria from Jordan and the United Arab Emirates (Operation Chammal).
